What is Content delivery network Karlo March 9, 2013. 1 What is CDN? Why is it important? Why do I need it? You probably asked yourself one of those questions if you are a webmaster. In this article I will explain you everything you need to know about CND. CDN stands for content delivery network which represents a network of servers which deliver static files from websites to users. Best feature of CDN is exactly that what I mentioned because with delivering that files in fast time will reduce loading time of your website. So, what exactly does it happens when I use CDN? Well, firstly, when you integrate with CDN your content gets copied on servers all over the world and when a visitor visits your blog that content is delivered to him from nearest geographically server instead from your host. Secondly, CDN hosts all your static files like images, pdf files, audio files or video files and like I mentioned above it reduces loading time of your site. Also don’t worry if you don’t see difference in loading time of your site because your international visitors will surely notice that your loading time has increased a lot. Beside the thing it makes you website much faster, CDN has many other features. Some of them are easy integration with WordPress, better handling of traffic that comes to your site, better search engine ranking, better SEO optimization and much more but still faster loading is probably main benefit of using CDN. This all sounds great and you probably wonder does CDN has any disadvantages? Unfortunately, it does! Probably the only disadvantage is that CDN’s are not free. But you know what people say, every good thing comes with a price. Probably the best CDN out there is MaxCDN. By reviews I read about CDN’s everybody is very happy with it and it is worth every penny you pay for it. So, to conclude, CDN is one of things you should use if you have any problems with slow loading of page or you simply want to make your site better. Many benefits which CDN’s offers are worth paying for. Thanks for reading. TrendyWP is powered by Genesis Framework Why we are using it? It's simple. You have pointed out some of the primary benefits of CDN solutions. I would also like to add that some CDN solutions will also provide cloud security, load balancing and DNS acceleration as part of the service. These features will ultimately lead to a more enhanced end user experience. CDN’s are also no longer only able to cache website files, but are also capable of delivering dynamic content (e.g. applications) at lightening speed. Not all CDNs are created equal and there is not one CDN that fits everybody’s needs. Definitely do some research on the average delivery speed (location specific) and network (where and how many servers the CDN has placed around the world), before even considering the solution.
